1. CRP is C-Reactive Protein that is raised when you have system wide inflammation in your body, and one of the reasons we put on deep fat instead of just gaining
2. CRP elevations increase more than just belly fat it increases your risk risk for CVD, type 2 diabetes, breast, colorectal, and endometrial cancers
3. CRP rises with menopause, and is one of the main reasons to consider balancing the menopausal hormones
4. Intra-abdominal fat increases in menopause which drives elevations in CRP, sort of chicken or the egg phenomenon
5. Studies link oral hormones to elevations in intra-abdominal fat but not transdermal estrogens, so when considering bioidentical hormones, it is important to take all these factors into consideration
6. It is less clear if androgens, or male hormones are related to CRP. Elevated androgens have now been shown to be linked to elevated intrabdominal fat, the metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, and subsequent CVD risk in women in some studies.
7. Elevated SHBG, the liver’s hormone binding protein, may be protective against both CRP and intra-abdominal fat, and this level can be modulated with balanced hormones.
