Lots of choices exist for contraception. We know now that women who have a strategy that works with their lifestyle will be most effective.

Knowing that progesterone only contraception may be safer for many women we encourage them to explore all the progesterone only options

Nexplanon is a small slim matchstick-sized three year contraceptive rod, with only progesterone, that is implanted in the inside of your arm.

We are very experienced, and if you have questions, or have an implant that is causing you any issues, we’d be happy to discuss it.

It is not effective at STD protection, so we would need to discuss options fi you have had and STD or feel you may be at higher risk of these.

It is covered by most all insurance plans.

It will be more effective than daily use of oral contraceptives. But we encourage all contraceptive use, and now there is an over the counter pill that can be a very effective alternative in the short run for most all women. We know that to use something every day inevitably leads to slip ups on dosing that can contribute to lack of effectiveness. The rod just does it’s very effective contraception job the day of insertion until the day of removal!

Nexplanon should not be used if you are pregnant, have active liver disease, have unexplained vaginal or menstrual bleeding, breast cancer, allergy to progesterone, or a history of clotting disease.

It is extremely effective against pregnancy, but if you suspect you are pregnant you do need to consult your gynecologist. In very early pregnancies that occur as contraceptive failures, you need to be sure that the pregnancy is not developing in the fallopian tube.

Other issues may need to be discussed, we welcome clients for contraceptive discussions.
