Orgasmic Headache

Orgasmic headache might make this sound like it’s a good headache, but it’s not any more, and potentially more miserable than other headaches. It’s when you have a headache, just from having sex. There are many women, and some men, who have reported a chronic headache condition which is having headaches from sex.

In the medical literature there has not been much study on the topic, mostly case reports. After sex is over the headache should resolve in due course, and not trigger successive headaches.

Some are reported in patients of very young age, and some in the older patients.

Most of the headaches are actually associated with orgasm, not sex or foreplay. So feel free to enjoy foreplay or intercourse, or self pleasure. It is therefore leading us to believe that headaches related to orgasms could be secondary to blood pressure, oxygen delivery to the brain, or heart rate abnormalities.

These headaches have not been specifically linked to a type of birth control.

Because of these potential causes the treatments to resolve headaches from orgasms are aimed at stabilizing heart rates and blood pressure, and in addition treatment with pain medication.

We do not recommend giving up sex! We recommend determining the cause.
