The general recommendation is to eat only 300 mg of cholesterol per day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An egg is about 180-200 mg of cholesterol. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Too much cholesterol can cause blockages in the arteries and lead to a compromise of oxygenation to the tissues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Egg consumption has been linked to high rates of heart disease in some studies, not in all of them, however. The studies look at just egg consumption and don&#8217;t calculate in eggs that might be in other food such as bread or cake. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Small amounts of egg consumption, like a 1\/2 an egg a day have lower rates of heart disease than consuming several eggs per day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is only one way to know if you are consuming too many eggs in your diet: that&#8217;s to do a cholesterol challenge. Stop eating eggs for a month, then test cholesterol, then eat what you want of eggs, and retest your cholesterol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cholesterol tests are inexpensive and accurate.
