Call or Text Your PCP if you Think You have Coronavirus

In December 2019, an outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection occurred in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China and spread across China and is in many parts of the world, but not likely to be in your back yard yet.

The WHO officially named the disease caused by the novel coronavirus as Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19.

Like other infectious diseases, it’s important to not expose vulnerable populations, even to get your own medical care, so it’s important to first contact your providers, and find out what they recommend for being seen or getting appropriate testing.

As with other viruses, we mostly recommend supportive care, and letting your own immune system heal you, but those who are very ill, supportive care means hospitalization.

Be sure you are currently on effective contraception if you think you have been exposed, as pregnant patients usually are sicker than their non-pregnant counterparts, and we don’t know the full extent of the effects on your child should you get the coronavirus while pregnant.
