What is SIS Test?
Saline Infusion Sonohysterosalpinograms (SIS) are used to get additional functional and anatomic information about your uterus. On ultrasound the interior of the uterus and fallopian tubes are collapsed, but with fluid expansion information is increased. Decades ago the tests were performed by x-ray which can be done, but does expose a woman’s pelvis to x-rays.

May need this water test of their uterus. Pelvic exams can feel the contour of your uterus, speculum exams visualize the cervix, the ultrasound is designed to look within the pelvis at the structures of the pelvis, but the water test is designed to add some contrast between the tissue layers to be able to see them better. The contrast is supplied with water. There are a few names gynecologists use for this ‘water test,’ including hysterosalpingogram, saline infusion ultrasound, saline infusion sonohysterosalpingogram. Technically the test can provide information on structures other than just the interior of the uterus, including the walls of the fallopian tubes to see if they are in fact normal.

It is designed to improve the current SIS test (Saline infused sonoghysterosalpingogram).
SIS test can be thought of as a single visit ultrasound fertility assessment done typically in the first part of the menstrual cycle. By using a small amount of saline (sterile salt water) and the Femvue device which also uses tiny air bubbles, we can assess whether your Fallopian tubes are open, and whether there are polyps, fibroids or other issues with the interior of your uterus. FemVue eliminates the need of the typical prior testing with x-ray and radiologic dye exposure women have had to have in a hospital setting. The Femvue SIS procedure allows you to have your testing done right here in our office. This improves accuracy, with safety and can potentially save women money as well.
