What’s Happening with Your Hair Loss?
We all lose hair. So it’s important to pay attention and figure out if you are losing your hair appropriately, or if something else is going on that you should consult your health care provider about.
First, is this your normal pace of hair loss? Accelerated pace of hair loss should be evaluated.
Is your hair loss in a symmetrical pattern? It might be androgenic alopecia.
Is your hair loss diffuse? The diagnosis could be telogen effluvium.
Is your hair loss focal in a patch? It may be the autoimmune disorder called alopecia areata.
Blood work to see if hormones are out of balance is a very helpful next step.
Focal hair loss can go along with other chronic diseases that have autoimmune consequences such as certain types of diabetes or thyroid conditions.
