This Surprising Gyno Condition is Linked to Hair Loss
Uterine fibroids and hair loss are linked
In a new study of almost 500,000 black women, published in JAMA Dermatology, it was found that Africa American women with hair loss known as alopecia have much higher odds of having the gynologic condition of uterine fibroids.
Medically, the researchers think, it is because both uterine fibroids and hair loss can be related to fibrous tissue abnormalities including scarring. There is also data that both are related to total body inflammation, a condition that is linked to many medical issues. Since some women with early fibroids have no noticeable symptoms, it may be worth doing an ultrasound screening in women with hair loss. Women who have hair loss and heavy periods are especially likely to have fibroids, early recognition and treatment is possible.
At Women’s Health Practice we have done many Clinical Research studies for new therapies for uterine fibroids, and are best positioned to help you evaluate and treat uterine fibroids, and in many cases, without surgery.
