What Affects A Guy’s Sperm Count

  1. Generally it is thought that sperm counts, semen volume, and male fertility have fallen in the past 50 years.
  2. That being said, basic health and fitness can help improve a guy’s fertility, just like it improves a woman’s chances of healthy pregnancy.
  3. Generally speaking a guy’s weight has not been shown to affect sperm counts.
  4. Cannabis has been shown to negatively impact fertility.
  5. Many research studies have looked at the effects of maternal medicine use on a pregnancy, but few look at what dad’s exposure may mean.
  6. Bottom line is that even a guy needs a pregnancy planning visit.
  7. Guys who work with chemicals have reduced sperm counts, especially with organic solvents.
  8. Some affects from medications may not be on sperm counts, but they may be seen in the rate of motility and generally on the couples fertility, even if the counts seem good.
  9. Some studies show that medications for depression, the SSRI group, might lower a guy’s fertility.
  10. We suggest at Women’s Health Practice that the couple make a pregnancy planning visit before attempting to conceive, to help both partners maximize their health before conception.
